11/12/2013 Avista's Cable Company Buys Bluemile Assets

WideOpenWest, an Avista Capital Partners -backed provider of cable television, Internet and telephone services in the Midwest and Southeast U.S., said it acquired the Columbus, Ohio, data center, cloud and fiber assets of Bluemile , a provider of cloud services.

Englewood, Colo.-based WideOpenWest, also known as WOW!, said the deal marks its entry into the cloud infrastructure space and provides a new business network presence in New York and Boston.

Oak Hill Capital Partners , Abry Partners and management formed WOW! in November 1999 to pursue opportunities in the cable industry.

Avista acquired WOW! from Oak Hill and Abry in 2006. The deal amount was $830 million, including an investment of $180 million in equity, according to a Moody's Investors Service disclosure at the time.

The company has made a number of add-on acquisitions under Avista's watch.

Avista, with offices in New York, Houston and London, said it makes controlling or "influential minority investments" of about $50 million to $300 million per company.
